New night show and facilities for 2013 Ekka
A new night show at the 2013 Ekka will feature 15 fireworks platforms, water fountains, lasers, comedians The Rooftop Express, Marvel superhero Iron Man and headlining artist Ricki-Lee Coulter - who will perform with her dancers across five stages.
Five extra generators will be needed to power the show and its rock concert quality sound system sound with an $500,000 invested in the all new professional production EkkaIgNites 360 presented by B105, providing a first class view from every seat in the Energex Community Arena.
RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou explained "we've overcome logistical, engineering and aeronautical challenges to create EkkaIgNites 360, but I think the results will speak for themselves when we see it in action."
Ekka 2013 will herald the opening of two new major show facilities the Royal International Convention Centre and its accompanying $7.5 million, 7,000 metre2 Plaza.
Welcoming the new facilities, Christou stated "over the past couple of years the people of Queensland have very kindly supported us while we redeveloped the old Industrial Pavilion and this year we get to invite Queenslanders back to enjoy it.
"For the first time visitors will see our new vision for the showgrounds in action and identify with what we are trying to achieve here; and we think they are going to love it.
"By diversifying what the RNA does and better utilising the showgrounds throughout the year, we will be able to continue investment in the Ekka and improve on it year after year."
During the Ekka, the Convention Centre will be transformed to accommodate the sophisticated new gourmet food and fashion precinct the Fashion and Fine Food Pavilion on the upper level and the dog show, agriculture and horticulture pavilions on the ground floor.
The famous Ekka Fashion Parades, the CommBank Natural Fibres Fashion Parades, will now be staged here alongside fine dining restaurant the Royal Queensland Steakhouse, fresh seafood and wine bar and the popular Sunday Mail Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show Stage with Dominique Rizzo, 4-Ingredients Kim McCosker and other guest chefs.
Christou explained that Queensland families had again responded well to Ekka's 'Plan Ahead, Buy Early and Save' message with online pre-sales for the Ultimate Family Bundle up over 400% on this time last year.
He added "we introduced our family ticket bundle options last year for the first time and they remain very popular.
"We know families are facing cost of living pressures, so putting on a value for money' event is top of mind for us and we really do appreciate it when families choose our event over others."
Families can still save $63 by buying the Ultimate Family Bundle online before midnight on 7th August 2013.
Queensland's biggest community event and most loved tradition, the Ekka, returns for its 136th year kicking off on Thursday 8th August and running until Saturday 17th August at the RNA Showgrounds in Bowen Hills.
7th May 2013 - EKKA 2013 TICKETS NOW ON SALE
17th October 2012 - AGRICULTURAL SHOWS IN DECLINE, WHILE COUNTRY EVENTS THRIVE
15th August 2012 - WITHOUT VOLUNTEERS AGRICULTURAL SHOWS 'WILL CEASE TO EXIST'
