Musicians Foundation’s Summer Festival combines music and wellness with addressing inclusivity

Musicians Foundation’s Summer Festival combines music and wellness with addressing inclusivity
July 5, 2023

Hosted by the non-profit Musicians Foundation, Hong Kong’s Summer Festival combines music, health and inclusion in a ‘celebration of total well-being’ at the one-day event to be held on 15th July at the Arca Hotel.

Promising an unforgettable day filled with live music, exciting activities, vibrant stalls, and impressive silent auction, this indoor event will take place from 3pm to midnight, offering a fantastic experience for all attendees.

Beyond the celebration and entertainment, the Summer Festival is a fundraising event dedicated to supporting the impactful project ‘Girls Aloud’. This initiative aims to empower girls aged nine to 15 through jazz improvisation, fostering their creativity and self-expression. Funds raised from the festival will contribute directly to the first camp scheduled to take place in August 2023.

With more than 30 years playing in bands, Chris Bowers (better known as Chris B.) musician and founder of Musicians Foundation is fully aware of the challenges faced by female artists.

Bowers shares “there’s a noticeable gender imbalance in the industry, a lack of female representation, which is why the Girls Aloud project is so important. Supporting the Summer Festival helps us make a difference in creating a more inclusive and balanced music community.”

The Summer Festival boasts an incredible line-up of live music entertainment, featuring a diverse range of talented acts including the soothing melodies and healing vibes of Body.Nature.Mind; the fusion of acoustic melodies and tap dancing from Acoufunkture; captivating performances by Adrian Fu; reggae music from General Achlin Achlino & the Captains, and  electronic artist CHANKA with more exciting acts to be confirmed.

Also making an appearance is champion Hong Kong bodybuilder Ken Hon with Bowers adding “the Summer Festival goes beyond music. It’s a celebration of total well-being. Ken is a leading figure in the world of bodybuilding and will share invaluable tips and insights on flexing and how to fuel your body and reach fitness goals.”

Keeping the mind healthy is a focus of Bowers. She set up the Musicians Foundation during the pandemic to support professional artists who struggled with the city’s long-running ban on live music, which lasted for more than 650 days, devastating Hong Kong’s live-music scene. It also took a mental and financial toll.

Bowers has been dubbed “the tattooed fairy godmother of the Hong Kong scene” by local media for her tireless work as champion of the city’s arts and culture. Since founding the music organisation The Underground HK in 2004, Bowers has become synonymous with Hong Kong’s grassroots music scene, having produced more than 500 events in that time.

The Musicians Foundation is grateful to the Arca Hotel for its generous support in hosting the Summer Festival, held in conjunction with their 2nd Anniversary celebration on July 8th. The Musicians Foundation is also grateful for Arca’s commitment to donate 10% of all Food and Beverage sales on the day of the event to their organisation.

Tickets for Summer Festival: advance price HK$380, walk-in HK$480. For more details, visit musicians-foundation.com
