Life Saving Victoria coordinates online Professional Development Series

Life Saving Victoria coordinates online Professional Development Series
April 6, 2020

Life Saving Victoria (LSV) has coordinated an online Professional Development Series for the aquatic and fitness industry with the intention of not just offering professional development opportunities, but more importantly the ability for industry personnel to connect and engage during COVID-19 - a time of increased isolation, frustration and uncertainty.

During these uncertain and challenging times, key aquatic and fitness industry organisations have come together and taken the decision to collaborate and step up the effort to support engagement and professional development during the COVID-19 state of emergency.

The outcome of the collaboration is the decision to offer free professional development opportunities to anybody associated with the aquatic and fitness industry four times each week. The professional development will include a range of presentations, seminars and panel events delivered by industry leaders and external experts from across the Country.

These sessions will be delivered directly into the homes of industry personnel through a simple Microsoft teams link. Four streams have been developed to guide the delivery / inform attendance and are hoped to encourage uptake by a broad scope of industry personnel stuck at home as a result of COVID-19. The first session will be Tuesday 7th April.

  • Stream 1 - Aquatic Operations - Every Tuesday 11am - 12pm
  • Stream 2 - Learn to Swim - Every Wednesday 11am - 12pm
  • Stream 3 - Management and Leadership - Every Thursday 11am - 12pm
  • Stream 4 - Health and Fitness - Every Friday 11am - 12pm

The intent of the project is to not just offer professional development opportunities, but more importantly the ability for industry personnel to connect and engage during this time of increased isolation, frustration and uncertainty.

LSV took the decision to initiate the project, following the standing down of the vast majority of industry personnel employed at Victoria’s 600+ Council, school and learn to swim facilities. The decision centred around the innate need of individuals to engage and connect now more than ever. The project also provides the opportunity to upskill and educate, ahead of the industry rebuild which will be required following COVID-19.

LSV Chief Executive Nigel Taylor advised “our people are our industry and now more than ever we collectively and individually need collaboration, engagement and connections.

“LSV is pleased to be able to coordinate this project and thankful for the positive response and willingness of the project partnership team.”

On the decision to join the project, Fitness Australia’s Scott Bumpstead added “a key component of our vision is to support the industry through engaging in partnerships, advocacy and education. Now is the time for us to make sure we do this to support the industry to the best of our ability.”
