read moreThe Department of Tourism at the University of Otago is looking forward to its hosting of the 2023 World Leisure Congress.
Being held in Dunedin from 11th to 15th December, the World Leisure Organisation's 17th Congress aims to promote informative, stimulating, and challenging discussion on the latest issues in leisure, including tourism, events, hospitality, recreation and sport (active and passive, indoor and outdoor).
Originally scheduled to be held in 2022 but delayed because of the pandemic, the theme of the Congress is ‘Leisure: Learn well, live well’.
‘Learn Well’ reflects how we learn through leisure and the strong education focus in Dunedin, which is home to one of the world’s leading universities.
‘Live Well’ reflects how leisure contributes to individual and community wellbeing at local, regional, and international levels.
Claire Bark, Project Manager for Congress organisers Conference Innovators, advises “together, these components of the Congress theme speak to the relevance and application of academic leisure theory and research to the practice of living well, and refer to academic, industry and practitioners alike.
“People are welcome to come and listen to the wide variety of presentations that will take place or to present on their own work - you don't have to be an academic to make a presentation at this Congress.”
Registrations for the World Leisure Congress remain open.
