Further developments at The Remarkables ski area in preparation for fast approaching winter

Further developments at The Remarkables ski area in preparation for fast approaching winter
March 17, 2015

The new Remarkables ski area base building high above Queenstown will be a world-class facility, reflecting its environment while offering ski area visitors the best possible experience on the snow.

New images show a striking building designed by Michael Wyatt, one of New Zealand’s leading architects.

Featuring strong angles and high peaks, wraparound decks and panoramic views, it will not only welcome visitors to The Remarkables, but sets a benchmark for ski area design and functionality.

The multi-million-dollar state-of-the-art building is designed to make a day at The Remarkables easy for skiers and boarders with improved restaurant, ticketing, rentals and retail, and easier access to the Curvey Basin lift which opened last year accessing new and improved trails.

Commenting on the design, NZSki Chief Executive Paul Anderson stated "it’s a stunning-looking building that reflects its dramatic alpine location.

“The services on the ground floor are all designed to make it quick and easy to buy tickets, collect rental equipment and get on snow – we’ve really focused on making it easy for our guests to get what they need and start enjoying their day.

“The top floor, which features a stunning 10m high glass frontage, is where you will find the café and restaurant with seating for more than 700 inside and another 400 outside.”

Expansive decks open up directly onto the learners’ area and continue around the building, offering sweeping views of the Wakatipu Basin and the Southern Alps.

Anderson continued "we’re starting to see the building taking shape which is hugely exciting for all of us, and the staff can’t wait to get in there and welcome our first guests."

For those wanting the best deal for lift passes this winter, the sales period for Early Bird season passes for Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt is drawing to a close, with passes only available until this Thursday (19th March).

The Early Bird season pass is the best value for those planning to ski and ride regularly in 2015, and there are a range of season pass options depending on where people intend to spend most time skiing and riding. The NZSki Pass provides the most flexibility and longest winter season with access to all three NZSki ski areas, including night skiing at Coronet Peak.

An adult NZSki Pass offering access to Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt is just $999 for the season (youths and seniors $699; students $799).

The popular Queenstown Pass (for The Remarkables and Coronet Peak, including night skiing) is just $899 for adults ($599 for youths and seniors; $699 for students).

An adult season pass for The Remarkables is $699, with the option to add on night skiing at Coronet Peak for just $99 for the season.

The Early Bird Mt Hutt adult season pass price is $749, ($599 for students and $329 for youths and seniors). A Mt Hutt Midweek Pass is $459 for adults and $359 for students respectively.
