Focus on attractions safety at 2018 AALARA Conference
The 2018 Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association (AALARA) 2018 Conference has opened on the Sunshine Coast with presentations covering the industry’s commitment to guest safety.
With the industry having been impacted by safety issues, and mainstream media reporting of such issues, over recent years, AALARA’s leading role in industry safety and a series of Conference presentations on standards, safety and incident management has drawn an expanded number of delegates to the Novotel Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast.
Two key presentations at the Conference are addressing the role of industry safety standards and, in particular, the role of the US-based ASTM International and the potential for the global harmonisation of standards.
With AALARA having represented the attractions industry in Australia over more than the three decades, the Association’s relevance has been demonstrated in recent months with leading members Mary Stuart and Greg O’Neill having represented industry interests with valuable input to ensuring new Queensland Government safety and workplace legislation is both effective and practical.
Giving the welcoming address this morning, AALARA President Dax Eddy spoke of the “10 million guest experiences delivered by AALARA members each year” with minimal safety issues.
Being held from 8th to 10th May, the Conference is bringing together a group of talented and dynamic international and Australian industry leaders and speakers to present inspiring and informative leadership key notes and educational industry breakout forums relevant to the safe and profitable management of attractions and amusement industry businesses.
A new feature in the Conference program for 2018 is the introduction of ‘thinktank’ sessions, addressing issues including awards and payroll, food and beverage, engineering and workplace safety, crisis communications, leadership, merchanding and retail, the imporance of fun, and due diligance.
