Fitness Australia releases new national guidelines for outdoor fitness training
October 2, 2013

Acknowledging that outdoor fitness services represent one of the most significant growth areas in the Australian fitness industry, Fitness Australia has just released new Outdoor Training Guidelines to provide best practice standards and risk management for the outdoor setting.

The Guidelines contain practical advice to help Registered Exercise Professionals and Registered Businesses reduce risks and exercise their duty of care.

In introducing the new Guidelines, Fitness Australia state "as the range of outdoor activities offered continues to expand rapidly, it's important that Registered Exercise Professionals and Registered Businesses manage risks, maintain professional and ethical practice and comply with local government regulations."

The Outdoor Training Guidelines cover areas including:

• Risk Management through pre-exercise screening, setting and space requirements, equipment selection and consideration for weather conditions
• Enhancing effectiveness through planning and delivery
• Professional and Ethical Practice including noise level, lighting, disturbances, business signage, sustainability considerations.

The Guidelines, developed by Fitness Australia, can be viewed at www.fitness.org.au/visageimages/Fitness_Australia_Outdoor_Training_Guidelines.pdf
