The fitness industry has been at the forefront of the 2015 Telstra NSW Business Awards with Paddington gym Flow Athletic winning the Start Up Award and leading billing company Ezypay winning the Medium Business Award.

Having owned three other gyms and run 34 marathons, personal trainer and former NRL player Benjamin Lucas launched Flow Athletic with yogi Kate Kendall in early 2013.

The partnership had began earlier when Kendall taught Lucas yoga while, Lucas trained Kendall. Together they realised that the two teachings complimented each other, so, when Flow Athletic opened it had no treadmills or weight machines but set out three core principles – yoga, strength and spin – combining yoga practice with cardio and strength training.

The business has expanded to include dance and boxing classes, an outdoor boot camp program in a local park and personal training along with Yoga teacher training.

Commenting on the success of Flow Athletic, Lucas explains “through hiring the right people and believing in your model and building a strong community, you can have success in a previously unproven concept.”

Winning the Medium Business Award , direct-debit billing and online payment service company Ezypay was acknowledged for its role in helping Australian businesses collect payments since 1996 with systems assist local businesses to maintain regular cash flow and automate payment collections.

The award also acknowledged Ezypay’s 2012 launch of iconnect360, its industry-first, cloud-based membership management software with full-integrated billing.
