The Fremantle Dockers have announced that part of their new $109 million training base at Cockburn Central will be named the Victor George Kailis Oval.

The outdoor component of the state-of-the-art facility, which the Dockers will move into in 2018, takes its name from local seafood business G.P. Kailis & Sons – founded in Fremantle in 1928.

The family runs the landmark Kailis Fish Market Café in the Fremantle Boat Harbour, with Victor Kallis having been a passionate Dockers supporter since the club joined the AFL in 1995.

He has contributed to the Dockers’ fundraising as a committee member of the inaugural Fremantle Football Club foundation.

A plaque was erected at the Dockers' boardroom at South Fremantle Oval after the family raised almost $1 million for the club's current training HQ.

The overall Cockburn precinct, developed by the City of Cockburn, the Dockers and Curtin University, will include an arena with several indoor and outdoor pools, a water playground, six basketball courts and state of the art gym facilities.

It is expected to be completed in mid-2017.
