read moreThe design and construction tender has been released for a family-friendly urban mountain bike trail network at Yellagonga Regional Park near Lake Joondalup in the heart of Perth's northern suburbs.
The project, which will also deliver additional car parking, toilets and bike shelters, is part of an $8.5 million WA Government investment in what is being dubbed 'the Kings Park of the north'.
Other investments earmarked for Yellagonga Regional Park include mountain bike trails, a new adventure playground and boardwalk at the Luisini Winery on the eastern shore of Lake Goollelal and upgraded dual-use pathways and improved car parking at Perry's Paddock.
Construction of new limestone pathways linking Duffy House into the park's pathway network are under construction, with further tenders to follow soon.
There will be additional planting and restoration work around the lake in partnership with the Friends of Yellagonga Regional Park community group.
A viewing platform and boardwalk will also be constructed by the City of Wanneroo to provide better access to Lake Joondalup.
Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton noted "This investment will improve accessibility and park amenities whilst protecting the park's cultural and natural values.
"These new bike trails will add to the recreational facilities in the area, making Yellagonga Regional Park a must-visit destination for families and fitness enthusiasts.
"There is tremendous community support for the mountain bike trails, with particularly strong advocacy by the Northern Beaches Cycling Club."
