Dandenong go kart operator introduces modified go-karts for people with disabilities

Dandenong go kart operator introduces modified go-karts for people with disabilities
July 7, 2015

Dandenong South-based Le Mans Go Karts has introduced a pair of modified go-karts for disabled users.

Giving disabled guests the excitement of the go-karting experience, the go-karts have been adapted so that disabled adults can drive in tandem with their carer – with the driving totally controlled by the carer.

Le Mans Go Karts also offers a hoist to help people with a physical disability enter and exit the go-karts.

Le Mans Go Karts Owner Ron Kasputtis said many of his staff had experience with disabled people and so, with outside interest, he decided to look at making go-karts more accessible.

Kasputtis Dandenong Leader, “we got a lot of advice from the experts and I think it’s paid dividends.

“We’re all very excited about it.

“During our launch we could see the excitement of the people with disabilities, because to our knowledge no other go-kart track has done that especially in Victoria, if not Australia.”

Le Mans worked with disability charity Scope on the project.

Adding that she was thrilled to be able to offer all of the excitement of go-karting to a whole new group of eager thrill seekers, Le Mans Go Karts Marketing & Promotions Manager Angela Kasputtis added “when the idea was first raised to partner with Scope to create this opportunity for those who weren’t previously able to enjoy go-karting, we had no hesitation in making it a reality.

“We want to ensure as many people as possible can experience the joy of go-karting, and with the C-300 ceiling lift, now even more people can.

“Scope is a wonderful organisation who do so much for those less fortunate than ourselves, and to partner with them for such a worthy cause gives us a real sense of pride and satisfaction.”

Commenting on the initiative, Scope Divisional General Manager Jenni Handy stated “we are excited about this initiative because it enables people with a disability to participate in a recreational activity in the community.

“Scope is passionate about working with organisations like Le Mans to create a more inclusive community for people with a disability,” said Jenni Hendy, General Manager, Scope South Division.”

Le Mans Go Karts is Victoria's largest outdoor go karting attraction with Melbourne largest indoor laser skirmish and paintball arena. The attraction caters for all ages ranging from three years to adult.
