Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary launches new Free Flight Bird Show
December 21, 2018

National Trust Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary will soar to greater heights with the launch of their new Wild Skies Free Flight Bird Show from New Year’s Day, 1st January 2019.

Wild Skies will introduce audiences to the majestic world of flight through innovative and engaging animal routines featuring native and exotic bird species.

National Trust Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (NTCWS) General Manager Michael Kelly said Wild Skies is another big investment in tourism on the Gold Coast and will be a bird show like nothing guests have experienced before.

Kelly explains “Wild Skies is set in a brand-new purpose-built stadium. It will be beautifully underscored with emotive music and take guests on a journey through the past, present and future of flight. The show will deliver a key conservation message and raise the bar for the local and international zoological industry.

“We believe that Wild Skies will not only captivate our audience, it will educate them and encourage long lasting change to make the world a better place for all."

Wild Skies will feature a cast of 45 birds consisting of 18 species including - pelican, owls, parrots, macaws, parrots, as well as the majestic Wedge-tailed eagles with a mighty wingspan of 2.5 metres.

National Trust Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is also pleased to announce Peters Ice Cream will be the presenting partner of Wild Skies Free Flight Bird Show.

Peters Ice Cream State Sales Manager Queensland, Daniel Donoghue is very proud of this partnership, adding "as an iconic Australian brand, Peters is passionate about delivering smiles to everyone and the Wild Skies Free Flight Bird Show, will do just that. We are deeply committed to driving a sustainable future for the planet and all its inhabitants, which makes the partnership with Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is the perfect fit."

Jonathan Fisher, Chief Executive National Trust of Australia (Queensland) says that the National Trust of Australia has made another significant investment in National Trust Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Fisher concluded “last summer we opened Lost Valley and this year we are launching Wild Skies in a brand-new purpose-built stadium with larger covered seating capacity to reflect the growing numbers enjoying the National Trust’s most visited property in Australia.

“I am delighted the National Trust is able to continue to invest and give the community and visitors alike more world class bird shows and attractions, and ensure that the legacy of founder Alex Griffiths - Currumbin Bird Sanctuary opened 71 years ago - lives on.'

The Wild Skies show commences at National Trust Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on 1st January with two 20-minute shows daily.
