read moreLogan City Council is calling for community input to inform the design of a $7 million project to deliver the Bethania to Logan Village rail trail acknowledging there is much to consider for a sustainable trail that’s suitable for walking, jogging and cycling.
The 10km trail is the first stage of a proposed 43km rail trail from Bethania to Beaudesert that will boost tourism and recreation opportunities and local economies.
The project is jointly funded by Logan City Council and the Queensland Government.
A successful rail trail is already open on the spur line from Logan Village to Yarrabilba.
Design work for the Bethania to Logan Village rail trail is due to start in November 2022, with construction planned for 2024.
To help inform the design, Council will seek feedback from the community from Wednesday, 31st August 31 for six weeks.
City Lifestyle Chair and Division 4 Councillor Laurie Koranski said Council would assess many factors in designing the rail trail with community feedback being an important component.
Koranski advises “there’s a lot to consider in delivering a sustainable trail that’s suitable for walking, jogging and cycling. We want people to share their thoughts and ideas for how the trail might look.
“We also want people to let us know about anything else we need to think about such as safety, access points and other possible recreational opportunities along the trail.
“There is no idea too big or too small – we want to collaborate with those who will be using the trail and live near it to ensure we get the best outcomes for everyone.”
Division 6 Councillor Tony Hall said the trail would bring people to the area via Bethania Railway Station.
“Our little part of the world will no longer be a place many just pass through on the train,” Hall said.
“Bethania will be a destination and gateway to the new rail trail which also benefits our local businesses.”
Division 9 Councillor Scott Bannan looks forward to the trail being extended to Jimboomba and eventually to Beaudesert in the Scenic Rim.
“I can see the bigger picture when one day you’ll be able to walk or cycle from Beaudesert to the city via a network of these facilities, and it won’t just be a pipe dream,” Bannan said.

Consultation ends on Wednesday, 12th October 2022
