CLM’s SwimMagic teaches over 11,000 swimmers each week
May 18, 2011

New Zealand's largest swim school SwimMagic is currently teaching over 11,000 swimmers a week.

With New Zealand being surrounded by natural waterways and coast lines, people are becoming more and more aware of not only how enjoyable these waterways are but also how dangerous they can be, and therefore the need to develop the life skill of swimming. From its conception in 2008 SwimMagic has grown from delivering lessons to 5,600 swimmers to week to currently well over 10,500, and the locations it is based out of has grown from ten aquatic centres to 17 in the same time period.

SwimMagic; developed by Community Leisure Management (CLM) bases its teaching style and progressions on simple and easy to deliver methods.

All the instructors around the country deliver the same concepts in a similar manner by following the simple and effective teaching systems.

SwimMagic Manager, Steve Peterson attributes the large growth and success of the swim school brand to the effective structure and systems that are in place and the efficient and motivated staff that are involved with the operations of each swim school.

Peterson explains "being a part of the SwimMagic network guarantees that each child will develop skills that will assist with their water safety but also develop an awareness and enjoyment of the aquatic environment.

"The programme caters from babies in the 'Magic Moments' programme through to adults, and also provides the pathway for competitive swimmers into the 'Magic Academy'. Around the country swim leagues are also being established so that swimmers can enjoy the 'individual' sport of swimming in a team environment that will continue to develop the love for the sport and provide pathways in the code. These are proving to be a huge success around the country."

As well as the teaching systems, SwimMagic also provides the structure and support for the communities ï¾ Kori the SwimMagic penguin mascot is continually out visiting schools, kindergartens and community events to educate on and deliver water safety messages to the community.

Recently Kori has made over 150 visits to local communities. It is this continual repetition of water safety messages that will help in the quest to reduce New Zealand's drowning rate and to ensure New Zealanders experience the fun that can be had in aquatic environments in a safe manner.
