The fitness club sought a turnstile that could be integrated with the existing Clubware membership system to provide automatic access control to valid members.
David Ridden, one of the owners of the 600 metre² Phoenix Health Club, explained that they chose the solution from Centaman Entrance Control because of the access control company’s ability to provide a turnstile that could seamlessly link to the club’s Clubware membership database.
Additionally, Centaman Entrance Control was able to understand their requirements quickly, design a solution that met these specifications, and also deliver the turnstile in half their normal lead time so that it could be installed and made operational in time for their grand opening.
A Centurion 100 tripod turnstile was installed with a built-in bar code reader and a custom interface to the Clubware Software. The member card scanned at the turnstile is automatically checked in the Clubware database to see if it’s a valid member and the right time. If the card is approved, the turnstile lets in one person.
A second entrance control lane featuring a motorised swing gate was installed alongside the turnstile to allow for wide lane access in compliance with the Disabilities Discrimination Act.
A touch panel remote control panel was also installed to give the reception team control over all the functions of the turnstile and gate.
Centaman Entrance Control has also recently introduced its next generation EasyGate speedgates with a new state-of-the-art Magnetic Direct Drive (MDD) motor for greater performance and functionality.
Designed specifically for this application over a period of 36 months and at a development cost of US$2.1 million, the MDD motor comprises of a permanent magnetic rotor, a multiphase stator coil and sophisticated control electronics. The movement of the motor is generated by changing the phases and voltage levels on the stator coils. The control electronics detects the position of the rotor while controlling the voltage levels according to the torque required by the motor at that precise phase of its movement.
The new motor in the Centurion EasyGate range of speedgates offers several advantages including faster opening and closing times of the barrier for faster throughput and greater security; a Hard Lock & Push through feature allowing the gate to activate a hard lock for the entry direction while enabling emergency opening by pushing the glass wings without any external open signal in the exit direction; and an MCBF of 5,000,000 operations and a designed lifetime of 30,000,000 operations assuring greater reliability.
The new MDD motor also ensures near silent operation for the quietest speedgate available on the market. Its low voltage operation enables easy battery backup to keep the EasyGate operational even during power dropouts.
