Bruce Rock recreation centre upgrade complete
Completed in April, the recreation centre includes a synthetic bowling green; upgraded swimming pool; ovals; tennis and netball courts, and these provide facilities for cricket, football, hockey, netball, tennis, squash and bowls.
Premier Barnett congratuled the Shire of Bruce Rock, local contractors and the whole community on the completion of the centre, stating "this recreation centre refurbishment was first started in 2002 with the upgrade of the swimming pool, so it's been a long project undertaken in several stages, but Bruce Rock has ended up with an outstanding facility for the whole community to enjoy."
Work at the facility included extending the indoor multipurpose court to full size (for basketball, netball, badminton and volleyball) adding three squash courts, with dual-use change rooms; ablution facilities; storage; and a district clubroom for all sporting groups.
The new sports precinct also has a playing field that caters for a football oval, two cricket grounds with four cricket turf pitches and two hockey fields with floodlighting.
The entire project cost nearly $5 million with the Western Australian Government contributing $2.45 million through its Department of Sport and Recreation and Royalties for Regions program while $2.26 million came from the Shire of Bruce Rock.
