Australian imaging company supports Koala Plantation Fund
Melbourne-based Digital Photo Industries, a leading supplier of digital imaging expertise to visitor attractions, is helping fund a new eucalypt plantation which will provide an ongoing supply of food for the koalas at Featherdale Wildlife Park in western Sydney.
Home to each sub-species of Australian koala, Featherdale Wildlife Park’s team of koala keepers meticulously map the species of eucalyptus required for each koala’s diet.
Now, to ensure they have the right leaves for the right koala, they have developed relationships with a number of properties across NSW to host eucalyptus plantations that Featherdale can use to better manage the eucalyptus species available to all their koalas.
In a conservation first, Featherdale is also moving to create a completely self-sustaining food plantation for its koalas by planting the first 5000 eucalyptus trees at a property nearby Lithgow, which will enable a sustainable supply of eucalyptus leaves and provide one of the most varied and nutritious diets for captive koalas in Australia.
This initial plantation is to be followed by multiple sites across NSW in the future.
Announcing Digital Photo Industries’ support, Managing Director Lynton Barriball explained “the success of our photo operation at Featherdale Wildlife Park has allowed us to put aside some of the revenue generated to re-invest in Koala welfare.
“We are excited to announce a donation of almost $24,000 towards the planting of the first 5,000 eucalyptus trees.
“With over 45 years’ experience caring for animals, Featherdale Wildlife Park proudly maintains the world’s largest collection of Australian fauna, and New South Wales’ most extensive collection of koalas. We are proud to be Featherdale’s Photography Partner and to be able to support their vision in such a positive way.”
Established in 2002, Digital Photo Industries designs and integrates state of the art digital imaging systems in a wide variety of markets, working with tourism sites to helping generate significant income from souvenir photographic operations.
Digital Photo Industries’ team have extensive global experience having worked with attractions including Disneyland Paris, Universal islands of Adventure in Florida, Ocean Park in Hong Kong, Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, Sydney’s Luna Park, Melbourne’s Eureka Tower and Sydney Bridgeclimb.
Their capabilities extend into biometric security imaging and their software has been in use in 47 countries around the world.
Digital Photo Industries technology is utilised in a variety of revenue generating applications, from capturing tourists riding the Edge experience at Melbourne’s Eureka Tower, getting up close with koalas at Featherdale Wildlife Park, rollercoaster imagery and Santa photography in shopping malls at Christmas.
