Art Week Tokyo 2022 introduces new features including the AWT PASS app

Art Week Tokyo 2022 introduces new features including the AWT PASS app
September 27, 2022

Art Week Tokyo - Tokyo’s premier citywide initiative for contemporary art - held at venues across the city from 3rd to 6th November, will complement the stellar lineup of exhibitions with the introduction of an array of new features this year, such as the official AWT PASS app, the AWT Bar, and a full VIP program organised in collaboration with Art Basel.

All these additions aim to enrich visitors’ exploration of Tokyo’s dynamic art scene and enhance their enjoyment of the city’s world-class hospitality, shopping, dining, and other activities.

Art Week Tokyo director and cofounder Atsuko Ninagawa notes “the response of international art professionals and collectors to Art Week Tokyo reflects the immense interest people around the world have for Tokyo as a capital of global culture.

“Now that Japan has further relaxed its border restrictions, with resumption of the visa-waiver program for individual vaccinated tourists starting from 11th October, we are excited to welcome more overseas visitors and cement Art Week Tokyo as a platform for Japanese and international art scenes to come together and exchange views.”

Art patron and Art Week Tokyo cofounder Kazunari Shirai adds “drawing on the convening power of one of the world’s greatest cities, Art Week Tokyo provides local and international visitors with a holistic experience that encompasses architecture, craft, design, fashion, and gastronomy in addition to contemporary art.

“The openness to diverse influences that historically shaped Japanese culture is also a hallmark of cultural innovation in Japan today, and this is what will make Art Week Tokyo a hub for the regional and international art communities going forward.”

AWT PASS
All holders of the AWT PASS app, now available to download for free from the App Store, Google Play, and other sites, are entitled to unlimited rides on Art Week Tokyo’s bus service, which operates from 10am to 6pm during the four days of the event. (Buses run every 15 minutes and can be embarked/disembarked at any stop on a first come, first served basis.) Equipped with a customisable map, real-time bus tracking, and other features, the AWT PASS also grants holders discounted entry to participating museums. Entry to all galleries is free of charge.

An annual showcase of the creativity and diversity of Tokyo’s contemporary art scene, Art Week Tokyo is organized by Japan Contemporary Art Platform in collaboration with Art Basel and is co-organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Art Week Tokyo Mobile Project Organizing Committee, with support from Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs.
