read moreThe Adelaide Shores precinct in the West Beach area of the South Australian capital will be revealing two significant additions for the summer season.
The precinct’s Mega Adventure Park, a 26 metre-high freestanding aerial adventure playground is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
The first of its type in Australia, the aerial adventure park will be based around a four-storey climbing structure, with obstacles including swinging tyres, hanging vines and plank walks, which users will navigate while harnessed and tethered.
The structure will also include viewing platforms at each level.
The attraction is being developed by Singapore-based Mega Adventure, which operates the MegaZip Adventure Park on Singapore’s Sentosa Island.
Introducing the venture, company founder and Managing Director Alexander Blyth told the ABC "(this) hasn't been done before - the number of features on this design are groundbreaking and the technology is groundbreaking.
"There will be 120 aerial activities for people of all ages to challenge themselves on.
"It consists of scramble nets and rope bridges and beams and vine [swings] and log steps, aerial surfboards and a luge."
People will be in a harness and they will be suspended from a line so if they fall off anything they can simply climb back on to it, with Blyth adding “the idea is to make it as universal as possible. It will depend on how much people want to challenge themselves.
"For others who just want to watch, they can make their way up 83 steps right to the top level ... and take in the views, which are pretty dramatic - at 26 metres you get a great view out to the airport, you can see down to Glenelg, out to sea and down to Henley [Beach].
“It will be quite spectacular.”
Blyth also stressed that the attraction will have stringent safety features, explaining “people will be in a harness and they will be suspended from a line so if they fall off anything they can simply climb back on to it.”
Following its success with the MegaZip Adventure Park, while also offering corporate development and team building programs, Mega Adventure aims to build the world’s largest adventure community.
Explaining the expansion to Adelaide, Blyth concluded “we thought there was such great potential in the Australian market because you have a reputation for being a robust bunch who enjoy your outdoor pursuits.
"We thought let's put one into Adelaide and see what the rest of Australia thinks."
The Mega Adventure Park is being designed by adventure and skyscape experience company TouchCloud Global. TouchCloud Global also designed the recently opened WILD Flight at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo.
Meanwhile, work is currently underway on the transformation of Big 4 Adelaide Shores Caravan Park’s existing swimming pools into a single, resort-style lagoon pool.
Work on the lagoon is set to be completed in early December,
