YMCA Australia has entered into an agreement with the National Heart Foundation of Australia to take over its long standing Heartmoves program.

With the Heartmoves program having helped thousands of Australians with chronic conditions to become independently active, YMCA Australia and the Heart Foundation have forged an the agreement that will see the continuation of the Heartmoves program.

Announcing the agreement, YMCA Australia Chief Executive Ron Mell said his organisation is perfectly positioned to take over this community program which aligns with the YMCA's vision to give each and every person an opportunity to be healthy, happy and connected.

Mell stated "our strong community connections offer an opportunity to continue and grow this excellent preventative health program that we've been involved with facilitating for some time now. We are aware of how valued Heartmoves is to those who take part."

Heartmoves is beneficial for people at risk of or living with chronic disease or those who may not have exercised for a while. Participants work at their own pace and Heartmoves leaders can choose to deliver the program either as a group or one on one activity.

The program is conducted in a range of settings, including fitness and community centres and aged care facilities by specifically trained fitness and exercise professionals, and is designed for anyone who hasn't done exercise in a while.

Heart Foundation national Chief Executive Mary Barry, is delighted the program is going to the YMCA, adding "I'm delighted that the YMCA, a reputable organisation with strong links into the community, is keen to take on this program that has seen so many people improve their health over the years.

"The YMCA will provide a safe pair of hands for management of the Heartmoves program and will create an opportunity to further expand the reach of the program beyond the 500 venues that currently deliver Heartmoves programs across Australia."

YMCA Australia and the Heart Foundation are now working closely together to ensure minimal disruption to the thousands of Australians who participate in Heartmoves classes each week.
