Watpac finalises $37 million contract to deliver Gold Coast Aquatic Centre
Builders Watpac have finalised contractual negotiations with the Queensland Government to deliver Stage 2 construction works for the redevelopment of the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.
Having been nominated the preferred managing contractor for the Stage 1 design development services in December 2012, Watpac has finalised all contractual negotiations to deliver the remaining Stage 2 construction works. The contract value is $37 million.
At a cost of $41 million, the Queensland Government and the City of Gold Coast are upgrading the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in order to host the 2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships and swimming and diving competition for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The new facility will deliver a new 10-lane 50 metre competition pool, learn-to-swim pool and upgrades to theexisting eight-lane 50 metre pool, 25 metre pool and dive pool. It will also feature new change room, gym and toilet facilities, an elevated spectator concourse and viewing terrace, community meeting rooms and event facilities, and permanent seating for approximately 1,000 people.
Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2014.
