read moreThousands of walkers are set to take on the challenge of walking the Overland Track after securing a booking for the upcoming 2024/25 summer season.
With bookings now open for Tasmania's premier multi-day alpine walk, the challenge is anticipated to attract walkers from across Australia and internationally.
Limits are in place to enable Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service to manage daily departures, along with damage to remote bushwalking environments and to support an outstanding visitor experience.
Tasmanian Minister for Parks and Environment, Nick Duigan noted that by 2pm yesterday of the available 8200 spots, 5110 had been booked.
The majority of these bookings are from interstate visitors (4125), followed by Tasmanians (774) and international tourists (211).
This year, there have been enhancements to the booking system to include a waiting room and a queuing system.
"The booking system has performed well with no outages. The queue has been fully processed with people currently going straight to the booking function," Minister Duigan added.
The Overland Track walk remains as popular as ever and is often fully booked each year across the peak spring, summer and autumn walking season from 1st October – 31st May.
There are 34 places available for booking each day over the season, which equates to 8,296 walkers over the full season.
