Tasmanian Infrastructure Grants encourage active participation

Tasmanian Infrastructure Grants encourage active participation
June 17, 2024

The latest round of the Tasmanian Active Infrastructure Grants Program will benefit more than 20 Tasmanian sporting clubs across the state with the large stream seeing more than $4 million provided to a wide variety of projects.

Ulverstone Golf Club will receive nearly $500,000 to install a new irrigation system.

Among the other projects to receive funding are Burnie Yeoman Cricket Club Inc. to receive $91,322  to replace Cricket Nets and Surface at Burnie Yeoman Cricket Club; Trevallyn Bowls and Community Club Incorporated will receive $91,322 to replace grass surface with synthetic and upgrade pathways with artificial grass at Trevallyn Bowls and Community Club; Deloraine Tennis Club will receive $172,790 to upgrade lighting for four courts to LEDs, including poles for two of the courts at Deloraine District Tennis Club; and Domain Tennis Centre to receive $70,184 to construct one clay tennis court and six pickleball courts at the Domain Tennis Centre, Hobart.

Tasmanian Minister for Skills and Training Felix Ellis noted “Under the Tasmanian Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, our Government is investing in local sporting facilities to ensure that our players have the facilities they need to play on.

“These grants are designed to ensure that sport and active recreation facilities across the state continue to be able to meet demand, are accessible and welcoming to everyone, and contribute to keeping our communities active, connected and inclusive.

“This funding round supports all sorts of different projects which encourage Tasmanians to remain active.

“Our Government is about keeping Tasmanians active. That’s why our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future committed to a nation-first Ticket to Wellbeing Program.

“The two-year $1 million trial is based on the successful Ticket to Play voucher system, which encourages our young people to get active.

“Two vouchers worth up to $100 each will be available to senior Tasmanians those listed on a Services Australia Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card.

“Both of these initiatives will provide real savings and help older people stay mentally and physically active.”

Ticket to Wellbeing is expected to launch later this year.
