Royal Life Saving awards Parkinson Aquatic Centre for safe design
The latest announcement of the winners of the inaugural National Aquatic Industry Safety Awards has seen Brisbane’s Parkinson Aquatic Centre recognised for Excellence in Aquatic Safety - Innovative and Safe Design for attention to detail and innovative safety features in their collaborative facility design.
Royal Life Saving Society – Australia Awards aim to acknowledge the achievements of aquatic facilities and individuals towards improving health and safety outcomes within their communities.
The Award recognises Parkinson Aquatic Centre for having been designed to allow for clear supervision, accessibility and inclusiveness. The attention to detail and small initiatives across the board, such as a central control room with uninterrupted views of both pools and front entry, open family showers, and a reception with 360 degree views of the venue make a huge impact on the operation of the centre and safety of the community.
Craig Roberts, Royal Life Saving Society’s National Manager Aquatic Industry explained “Parkinson Aquatic Centre was recognised for their development of an innovative facility with safety at its forefront.”
The vision began in 2015 when Brisbane City Council, City Venue Management, Liquid Blu Architects, and Spantech construction collaborated to deliver a new facility that was innovative and well in advance of the city’s minimum standards.
Brisbane’s second largest aquatic facility after the Sleeman Sports Complex, the new facility includes a heated 50 metre-eight lane outdoor pool with accessible ramp, an 18 metre heated indoor leisure pool with accessible ramp, kiosk, café, car park, accessible change rooms that are suitable for people with a disability, as well as car parking, staff rooms, storage areas, a plant room and a service area.
The facility was procured by Brisbane City Council using a Private Public Partnership with City Venue Management, Spantech and Liquid Blu.
