Never too old to get active
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic's Aquatic and Fitness Centre, Te Pare a Ruahine, has introduced a new programme to keep the over 60s fit and active.
Never2old is a physical activity and education programme suitable for all levels of fitness including those over 60 who have never trained in a gym before.
Designed eight years ago by Auckland's AUT University, it is fully endorsed by GPs, hospitals, Auckland District Health Board, National Heart Foundation and Green Prescription.
The aim of never2old is to help mature adults improve functional fitness, strength, power, heart health, balance and flexibility and to stay living independently and well in the community for longer. There are currently 17 centres across Auckland delivering the never2old programme and the Polytechnic is proud to be the first in the Bay of Plenty.
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic's Aquatic and Fitness Centre Manager Keith Martin is delighted to be delivering the programme to the local community, stating "we know the benefits for those bold enough to take the first step of coming along to see what never2old active ageing is all about."
The never2old programme runs every Monday and Thursday from 8 to 9am at the Windermere-based Centre.
