Hard Rock International looks to China expansion
Hotel and restaurant chain Hard Rock International is aiming to expand into China with a series of hotels and restaurants to meet fast-growing leisure and entertainment demand in the world’s second-largest economy.
The US-based chain is opening three hotels in China’s coastal cities, including a 200-room oceanfront resort in north eastern Dalian city, due to be completed in 2018, along with two other properties in Shenzhen and Haikou in the south.
The group is also aiming to open Hard Rock Café branded restaurants in key locations.
In a recent announcement of the expansion, Leong Wy Joon, Senior Vice President of Hotel Development at Hard Rock International advised “with the Chinese travel industry quickly changing as leisure demand grows, we feel the music-centric programming at Hard Rock Hotels will resonate well with Chinese travelers who visit Dalian each year.”
Hard Rock will also sponsor China’s popular Strawberry music Festival for the third year this year.
The rapidly rising wages of much of Chinas population over the last decade has created a working and middle-class with more discretionary cash to spend on films, travel and other entertainment.
The company also plans a casino in Central Vietnam with Banyan Tree and expects to open the project 24 months after its partner receives a license.
