Broome to benefit from $3.3 million Western Australian Government investment in sport and recreation
July 19, 2018

The Western Australian Government has announced that it will fund the upgrade and expansion of multipurpose outdoor courts at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre (BRAC).

Following an investment of $1.25 million in the recently completed refurbishment of BRAC, $1.94 million will now be spent weatherproofing the sport courts and improvinge seating and lighting at the venue.

Other projects recently funded through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, include $85,000 for the construction of a local pump track, $32,100 for lighting at the Broome Bowling Club, and $18,000 to upgrade storage facilities at the Broome Squash Club.

Visiting Broome this week, Western Australian Minister for Sport and Recreation; Volunteering; Seniors and Ageing Minister Mick Murray met with a number of local sport, seniors and ageing and volunteering stakeholders, and toured local facilities.

Commenting on the investment, Minister Murray stated “the State Government is committed to investing in Broome sporting facilities to not only boost participation in grassroots sport, but provide a shot in the arm to local economies by supporting local jobs.

"Government investment in country areas provides work for tradespeople, often supporting local small business.

"Five facility projects share in $3 million in State Government funding, ensuring high quality facilities for the Kimberley region.”

Minister Murray also spoke of the importance of the upgrades to BRAC.
