SGL APPOINTED TO CONDUCT REVIEW FOR GOLD COAST 2018 COMMONWEALTH GAMES CORPORATION
21-11-2012

SPORT - EVENTS - CONSULTANCY - VENUES - STADIA
Leading consultancy SGL has been appointed by the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation to conduct a review of the sports program and evaluate a number of sports that have expressed an interest in being included in the prestigious event.
The review will be conducted by SGL Partner Larry Sengstock, who was the General Manager of Sport for the highly successful 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, will undertake the review.
Gold Coast 2018 currently has a 17-sport program that was presented and ultimately accepted as part of the bid and hosting rights by the Commonwealth Games Federation for the 2018 event.
There is no guarantee that the sports program will change as a result of this review, however, it is an important step in the overall planning process.
Each Commonwealth Games program is determined by the host nation, with the rules for inclusion of certain sports has changed over the years, resulting in a unique program at each event.
Beyond 10 core sports - athletics, badminton, boxing, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, Rugby 7s, squash, swimming and weightlifting – the sport program varies at each edition but must be limited to a maximum of 17 sports.
For more information contact Larry Sengstock at SGL Melbourne office on 03 8623 2840, 0419 634 668.
