read moreIn a move to encourage activity among young people during their school holidays, YMCA have launched a pilot Youth Free Gym program at selected facilities in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
If successful, the program will be offered more broadly in future over school holiday periods.
Aiming to help young people achieve their personal health and fitness goals, a YMCA statement invites participation whith the invitation “if you’re up for the challenge, we are too.
“Contact a centre ... and then pop into the centre and see our friendly staff at front reception to get started.”
Explaining the initiative, YMCA Australia Chief Executive Melinda Crole stated “at the YMCA we believe in the power of inspired young people, and we want to create more opportunities for them to feel and be their best.
“Being physically active and connected to their local community is important to optimal wellbeing, and with our health clubs across Australia, motivated staff and volunteers, and commitment to young people, we are well placed to do more for young people.
“We also know that school holidays can be a good time for young people to try something new, and if the pilot goes well this January, we hope to be able to broader the program in other school holiday periods.”
