World’s largest Flying Fox to be built on NSW Central Coast
The TreeTop Adventure Park is to construct a one kilometre-long flying fox following the award of $200,000 Federal Government the Tourism Industry Regional Development Funding (TIRF) grant.
The attraction, developed following two years of research, will be built at the TreeTop Adventure Park in the Ourimbah State Forest on the NSW Central Coast
TreeTop Adventure Park co-owner Sandrine Gaymard said the concept, which will feature a twisting and turning experience through the forest, will not cause any damage to the trees
Gaymard explained "whenever we remove the apparatus, after a couple of months, there's absolutely no trace of us being there which is really what we aim (for) as an eco friendly business."
Gaymard said the activity, nicknamed the 'Crazy Fox', will stimulate new interest in the Central Coast for interstate and international visitors.
She added "through creative developments TreeTop Adventure Park can build our reputation as an eco-adventure destination with the best safety record and as leaders in innovative tourism concepts."
The ABC reported Central Coast Tourism Chief Executive Robyne Abernethy as being "delighted" at the prospect of the new experience, stating "from a destination perspective, being the location of Australia's newest and longest flying fox is exciting for our region.
"It has the potential to increase our overnight visitation and each new overnight visitor provides an economic benefit of $143 per person to the local economy."
TreeTop Adventure Park aims to have the flying fox, suitable for a broad range of ages and physical abilities, open by Christmas following an environmental assessment, community consultation and pending Council approval.
TreeTop Adventure Park is one of 65 regional Australian businesses to receive funds in the latest round of the TIRF grant program.
