read moreThe conflict hardened Afghanistan capital of Kabul has a new attraction, a US$5 million waterpark in the heart of the city.
The new 2,300 metre2 facility, which includes six water slides, a wave pool, whirlpool, sauna and restaurant is a male-only only facility, with the exception of young girls under the age of 10.
The popular facility, which can handle up to 1,000 customers at a time, also has a restaurant, whirlpool, sauna and a large play area for children
With uncertain levels of security and foreign combat troops set to leave the war-torn country in 2014, entry to the indoor waterpark is subject to high security. Access to the non-descript building is past armed guards with guests subject to body searches.
Introducing the development, Park Manager Mahmod Najafi explains "we have provided jobs for 70 people and we have provided a good environment for our young generation.
"My message to other Afghan businessmen is that if we don't invest because of concerns about 2014, we will remain backward.
"Every Afghan has to work individually to promote this country."
In a city where the average wage is about US$50 a week, a thriving middle class can afford the admission price of 500 Afghanis (US$9).
