read moreWilliam Angliss Institute has been awarded $4.47 million in funding from the Victorian Government to develop much needed skills for the tourism and hotel sectors.
The funding includes $2.72 million for a regional tourism employability initiative which will provide highly skilled staff for Victoria’s iconic regional destinations.
Welcoming the funding, William Angliss Institute Chief Executive Nicholas Hunt stated “Victoria’s regional destinations need appropriately skilled staff in hotels, restaurants and other facilities to ensure our destinations are attractive to visitors.
“The Regional Tourism Employability project will see William Angliss Institute partnering with regional TAFEs to provide cost-effective tourism and hospitality training in regional areas.
“Students will be able to continue living in the regions, while gaining the practical skills and specialist knowledge they need to drive regional hospitality and tourism to a more competitive level.
“We expect the program to result in 570 direct jobs over the first five years, and many of these jobs will be in regional Victoria.”
A second grant of $1.74 million has been awarded for the Institute to launch Melbourne’s first International Hotel School to train the next generation of outstanding hotel management professionals.
Hunt stated “the hotel industry cannot get enough skilled staff for management roles. This can stifle business growth and limit staff succession.
“As a specialist training provider, William Angliss Institute is in a unique position to offer innovative programs which allow students to quickly build careers in hotel management and provide much needed skills for the industry.
“This initiative will result in more students electing to study hotel management, a more highly skilled workforce and a growing hospitality sector which will help to generate new jobs in the industry.
“William Angliss Institute has a 75 year track record in training specialists for the foods, tourism hospitality and events industries. When our students graduate, they are job ready. They have an effective combination of operational and management skills together with higher level problem solving skills which makes them highly employable.”
A recent survey by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research, found that 90.4% of William Angliss Institute graduates went on to employment or further study.
Established in 1940, William Angliss Institute is the specialist training provider for foods, tourism, hospitality and events industries. Offering short courses, certificates, diplomas and bachelor degrees, William Angliss Institute enrols approximately 18,000 students annually.
