Western Australian country Sportshouses receive $1.5 million funding

Western Australian country Sportshouses receive $1.5 million funding
October 26, 2015

The Western Australian Government is to boost sport administration in regional areas with $1.5 million funding for local 'Sportshouse' offices.

From Broome to Albany, these offices provide an important community meeting place for paid sports administrators and volunteers to collaborate, network and share ideas.

Announcing the additional $1.5 million in funding over the next three years, Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies stated "nine regional Sportshouses in Western Australia provide affordable accommodation space for regional associations, as well as a central resource for clubs, coaches, athletes, teachers, business groups and officials.

"The people who work and meet in our Sportshouses are committed to their local communities and do a great job coordinating and developing community and high performance regional sport.

"Providing quality sport in country WA towns is so important because it strengthens our regional sporting system."

Sportshouse offices provide accommodation, shared technology and a physical environment for local clubs and teams to share information and use.

Sportshouses host more than 50 personnel in offices across the State, representing 41 different organisations across both the sport and recreation sector.

Minister Davies added “initiatives like our sports academies, large scale events like junior sport development days, coaching forums, exhibition matches, and regional tours of elite teams are just some of the events that the Department of Sport and Recreation staff coordinate from our Sportshouses."

Sportshouses are located in Carnarvon, Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Broome, Mandurah, Bunbury, Albany, Karratha and Northam
