Western Australia Labor Party commits to selling Perth venue naming rights if elected
The Western Australia Labor party has put the sale of naming rights for the Perth Arena and the new Perth Stadium on their agenda if elected to govern after this Saturday’s state election.
Western Australian Shadow Treasurer Ben Wyatt said the sale of naming rights for both venues could add $10.5 million to the state’s budget over four years in an effort to add additional revenue to a budget that is in deficit.
Wyatt told WAToday “after years of reckless spending, it’s crucial that we take advantage of all options available to help get our budget back on track.
“I don’t envision the Perth Arena or Perth Stadium being removed, we simply add the commercialised name to it,” he added.
Tourism Council WA Chief Executive Evan Hall was conditionally supportive of the move, adding “it would have to be not an multinational company, but an Australian brand.
“As long as it still has Perth in the name. The Qantas Perth stadium, for example, would work reasonably well.”
