WACA adds business and political experience to its board

WACA adds business and political experience to its board
July 14, 2017

The WA Cricket Association is enhacing its political and corporate capabilities with the appointment of former Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron and respected businesswoman Eva Skira to its board.

Waldron, a long-serving Nationals MP will be the WACA’s new Vice-President while Skira, the former Chairwoman of the Water Corporation, fills a casual member-elected position.

The latest appointments used a new 'skills matrix' approach designed to ensure the WACA board has the right blend of playing experience and understanding of government and finance.

Waldron’s governmental experience has been identified by the West Australian newspaper as being of particular value to the WACA as it negotiates for Western Australian Government funding and works out how the WACA Ground will interact with the new Perth Stadium.

Skira, whose previous directorships include Doric and MDA National, is currently the Chairwoman of trustees at St John of God Health Care and a Director at RCR Tomlinson and Macmahon Holdings.

Announcing the appointments, WACA President and Chairman Ken Michael stated “we have an exceptional group currently sitting on the WACA board and Mr Waldron and Ms Skira will only add to this, ensuring we’re well placed for the future.

“To have such outstanding members of the community join the WACA board is testament to the work undertaken to position the association as the leading sporting body in WA.

“It shows there is confidence ... in the work we are doing and vision we have set ourselves to achieve.”
