Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport recognised with industry communication and marketing award
The communication and marketing activities undertaken by John Eren, Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Minister for Sport and Minister for Veterans' Affairs in the Victorian Government has been recognised in the third Australasian Leisure Management Communication and Marketing Awards.
Minister Eren, who has held his Ministerial roles since 2014, has been named as the recipient of the Ministerial Award in the annual Awards.
Responsible for the leisure portfolios in the Victorian Government, John Eren has a high profile role in the state, being key in making and implementing policy affecting activities that are of key interest in Victoria.
Just this year he has made funding announcements impacting numerous community sport facilities and major commitments on the redevelopment of Marvel (Etihad) Stadium, keeping the AFL Grand Final at the MCG until 2057 and money for the AFLW among a $500 million Victorian Government spending package.
The communication of these and other announcements and the marketing of wider activities relating to his portfolio by Minister Eren and his team has promoted the presentation of the Award by Australasian Leisure Management.
Announcing the Award, Nigel Benton, Publisher of Australasian Leisure Management, stated “what is refreshing is Minister Eren’s involvement in not only ‘big’ announcements but community level activities and that his communication activities have been delivered largely free from slogans, spin and political point-scoring throughout the year.
“It’s also refreshing to learn that Minister Eren personally manages his own social media accounts.”
“It is inevitable that a crisis will occur in any business or organisation and what this Award seeks to do is recognise how communications are handled when that happens.
“At worst poor communications management of a crisis can have a massive negative impact on a business while, at best, as we can see with how Peninsula Leisure handled this challenge, can generate customer satisfaction and enhancement of and confidence in a brand.”
Being presented for a third time this year, the Australasian Leisure Management Communication and Marketing Awards recognise excellence in communication and marketing in all sectors of the leisure industry - aquatics, attractions, entertainment, events, fitness, parks, recreation, sport, tourism and venues - in Australia and New Zealand.
Beyond announcement of the recipients, the Awards will be presented in a series of one-on-one meetings over the coming weeks.
