read moreThe Victorian Government has struck a four-year $12.4 million partnership with Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia to create opportunities for more Victorians to get on the park and get involved in local cricket.
Record attendances at the 2015 ICC World Cup matches hosted in Melbourne as well as the rise in popularity in T20 Big Bash has seen a surge in Victorians getting involved in all levels of cricket.
During the current season, 325,000 Victorians are playing the game.
The partnership, called Community Cricket Program: On Common Ground will invest in, and deliver, a range of initiatives that facilitate the development of new multi-use cricket facilities, particularly in regional centres, skills training, and programs focusing on diversity, female cricket and equipment.
Included in the partnership, is $10 million available over four years for community cricket facilities as part of the $100 million Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
In addition to the Community Cricket Program: On Common Ground, the partners are contributing $35 million to transform Junction Oval into the Victorian Cricket and Community Centre.
