Vbase Chair praises outgoing chief executive

Vbase Chair praises outgoing chief executive
July 6, 2018

Outgoing Vbase Chief Executive Darren Burden is being praised for his leadership of the Christchurch venue management company over the past four-and-a-half years.

Burden, who joined the company in January 2014, is leaving Vbase today as a result of Christchurch City Council-led restructure.

Commenting on Burden’s time at the venue management business, Vbase Board Chair Tim Scandrett stated “under Darren’s leadership Vbase has delivered more than 3,500 events and welcomed nearly three million guests.

“With Darren at the helm, Vbase has hosted three world cup sporting events, and notched up some of the busiest weeks in the company’s history. Major concerts at the temporary AMI Stadium include the Foo Fighters and Bruce Springsteen.

“Since Darren has been Chief Executive, Vbase has twice won the New Zealand venue industry’s Excellence in Customer Service Award.

“Darren’s accomplishments led to him being named by the venue industry as its 2016 Venue Executive of the Year.

“We were very proud this year when he became the first New Zealander to be named Venue Professional of the Year at the 2018 Venue Management Association (VMA) Awards.”

Scandrett concluded “not many professionals in the industry would have been able to achieve what Darren has in a post-earthquake environment.

“The Vbase Board wish Darren the very best for the future.”

With Vbase to be split, current Vbase staffers Chris Mintern will become General Manager Operations and Chris Wallace will be General Manager Events Services.
