Of the $570,000 worth of approved payments set to be distributed, the following organisations will receive:

• $150,000 to Basketball Tasmania to support 12 jobs

• $114,000 to Surf Lifesaving Tasmania, supporting six jobs
• $150,000 to Netball Tasmania to support 17 jobs

Further support is also being provided to Triathlon Tasmania and Motorcycling Tasmania.

Announcing the funding, Jane Howlett, Tasmania's Minister for Sport and Recreation, stated "last month we announced a $2 million support package to assist the state’s sport and recreation sector to keep Tasmanians employed and (I am) delighted to announce some of the successful applicants of tranche one of that package.

"I congratulate these wonderful organisations on their successful applications and I expect to announce further support for others like them in coming days.

"The key objective of (this) grants program is to keep Tasmanians in work through this pandemic so that our grassroots sports that are so deeply embedded in our culture can survive and resume once is safe to do so."
