Sydney’s top exhibitions and art events staying up late

Sydney’s top exhibitions and art events staying up late
January 18, 2017

Sydney’s major arts and cultural institutions have commenced the Culture Up Late program - turning on their lights and welcoming Sydneysiders and visitors to enjoy extended opening hours on Wednesdays for top exhibitions and art events.

Culture Up Late will see the Australian Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, Sydney Opera House and Carriageworks opening their doors for longer during the regular weekly summer night event.

Introducing the initiative, NSW Minister for the Arts Troy Grant explained “Culture Up Late offers an alternative time for Sydneysiders and visitors to appreciate the fantastic offerings of Sydney arts and cultural institutions and on each Wednesday summer night be a part of this city’s many attractions.

“Whether its 400 spiders at the Australian Museum, ancient mummies or twilight tours of the Southern Sky at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, garden design at the State Library or nudes at the Art Gallery, Wednesday nights this summer offer a weekly opportunity to experience each of these novel exhibitions.”

“With the Museum of Contemporary Art staging the immersive installations of Tatsuo Miyajima and Carriageworks and the Sydney Opera House showcasing the Sydney Festival, Sydney by night and day is the place to be as a unique arts and entertainment destination for locals and tourists alike.

Culture Up Late is an initiative of the NSW Government’s new Arts and Culture Advisory Committee which brings together the chairs of the major cultural institutions, significant patrons and arts leaders to inform arts, screen and cultural policymaking.

Minister Grant congratulated the Committee “for coming together and providing ideas and leadership to help raise the profile of arts and culture in NSW and the access of everyone to quality arts experiences.”
