Surf Abu Dhabi announces October opening and hosting of 2025 World Surf League event

Surf Abu Dhabi announces October opening and hosting of 2025 World Surf League event
August 18, 2024

Modon Holding has announced that, after a series of delays, its Surf Abu Dhabi attraction will open in October.

Immediately following the much anticipated opening announcement, the World Surf League (WSL) revealed that Surf Abu Dhabi will be part of the 2025 Championship Tour  and will also host the third stop of the 2024 WSL Longboard Tour.

Thursday's opening announcement advised "back in 2019, we set out with a bold vision: to bring perfect waves to the Middle East (and) over the past five years, this vision has been shaped by relentless dedication, countless hours of work and a deep commitment to the art of wave craftsmanship.

"What we’ve built here isn’t just a surf destination - it’s a world-class oasis where perfect, crystal-blue barrels roll against the stunning backdrop of desert and city."

The subsequent WSL announcement that the Hudayriyat Island attraction will serve as a key venue for upcoming major surfing events, heard WSL Chief Executive, Ryan Crosby stated “we’re looking forward to seeing what the Surf Abu Dhabi facility can deliver for the world’s best surfers - and the broader surfing world - in the future.”

Owned and operated by Modon Holding, Surf Abu Dhabi is powered by the wave technology developed by the WSL-owned Kelly Slater Wave Company (KSWC).

The WSL has already held six Championship Tour events on the artificial waves of the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California, USA between 2018 and 2023.
