Sunshine Coast businesses engage with Million Moves challenge

Sunshine Coast businesses engage with Million Moves challenge
April 18, 2024

Local Sunshine Coast fitness businesses have jumped onboard to support AUSactive’s Million Moves challenge offering free gym access, classes and sessions during May to help the community get their 75 moves a day across the 21-day event.

For 21 days from on 1st May 2024, people of all ages living in the Sunshine Coast and Moreton City electorates of Fisher, Fairfax, Wide Bay and Longman are invited to join the challenge and complete 75 moves a day to help their electorate reach the million milestone first.

Since registrations opened on 1st April, more than 24 businesses have signed up to provide a range of free offers to residents of the Sunshine Coast.

Advising that the support of local businesses was not only vital but showed the Sunshine Coast community spirit of supporting grassroots community initiatives, Federal Member for Fairfax, Ted O’Brien stated “it’s fantastic to see local Sunshine Coast businesses supporting community initiatives such as the Million Moves challenge. The community spirit is strong and with the support of business offering free access to a range of fitness options we are hoping more people get involved to achieve 75 moves a day for 21 days in May.

“I exercise because it clears my mind, it keeps me mentally healthy and physically healthy.”

With research showing that 75% of Australians don’t get the required amount of physical exercise a day, Million Moves aims to highlight this statistic, and break it, by promoting 75 moves a day over three weeks - the time is takes to from a new routine.

Terry Young, Federal Member for Longman which includes the surrounding areas of Bribie Island, Burpengary, Caboolture and Woodford said the Million Moves was about promoting physical activity to help improve overall health and wellbeing.

Young noted “health and exercise is such a good preventative measure, when it comes to health, both mental and physical, so let’s get off the couch and get into it.

“I’ll be getting out with the people from dragon boats on Bribie and going for a paddle and just doing a few simple things like doing a few star jumps or push ups each day. It all makes a difference, so I encourage everyone, get involved, it is going to be a great initiative.”
