Stonnington prepares for Walk to School program

Stonnington prepares for Walk to School program
September 24, 2019

The City of Stonnington, a local government area located within the metropolitan area of Melbourne, is joining VicHealth in its mission to get children walking, riding and scooting to school as part of the annual Walk to School program in October.

Launching the program at Windsor Primary School, City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Steve Stefanopoulos, encouraged families to get active on the trip to and from school to help build healthy habits for life.

Mayor Stefanopoulos advised: “I’m delighted to join with students on the Safe Routes to School Working Party at Windsor Primary School to launch Walk to School in Stonnington for 2019.

“The Walk to School program is a free, easy and fun way for kids to be active on the way to and from school.

“In Stonnington we have lots of dedicated shared paths for walking and cycling that make it safe and easy for parents and guardians to accompany children on their way to school.

“The mornings are warming up and our kids are healthier and happier when they’re active. Walking, riding or scooting to school is an easy way to build activity and fitness into their day.”

Last year more than 140,000 children from over 750 schools across Victoria took part in Walk to School, travelling the equivalent distance of two return trips to the moon.

Schools in Stonnington taking part include Armadale Primary School, Korowa Anglican Girls’ School, Lloyd Street Primary School, Malvern Central School, Malvern Primary School, Malvern Valley Primary School, St Joseph’s Primary School and Windsor Primary School.
