Sport NSW presents 2020 community and volunteer Award winners
November 20, 2020

Sport NSW has this week announced the winners of its 2020 NSW Community Sports Awards along with the recipients of its Distinguished Long Service Awards.

Presented across 10 categories, the NSW Community Sports Awards recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions to community sport in NSW over the past year which is largely carried out by a volunteer workforce.

The NSW Community Sports Award winners are:

Sport NSW Chairperson, Carolyn Campbell said sport relies on the selfless work of volunteers and congratulated the recipients on their Award, commenting “the army of sports volunteers, who are involved in sport every weekend, are the lifeblood that keeps community sport going, and we are delighted to pay special tribute to them for the hundreds of hours they have contributed over the past 12 months.

“Despite a year where community sport has been interrupted because of COVID-19, sport remains at the heart of communities across NSW. Sport is unique as it has the ability to bring people from different cultures and backgrounds together.

“It is fitting we recognise and honour our volunteer sports workforce with these Awards. Without these hard-working volunteers, tens of thousands of boys and girls, men and women, would not be able to enjoy the health, social and community benefits sport provides.”

The 21 recipients of Sport NSW’s Distinguished Long Service Awards have honoured individuals across a broad range of sports who have given exceptional service to their sport over a period of decades.

Speaking about these awards, Campbell added “sport in NSW relies on people who have voluntarily dedicated their time over many decades. Put simply, sport would not exist without them. It is fitting these Distinguished Long Service Award recipients are recognised and honoured.

“Without these hard-working, selfless volunteers, tens of thousands of boys and girls, men and women, would not be able to enjoy the health, social and community benefits sport provides. Sport remains at the heart of communities across NSW and has the unique ability to bring people from different cultures and backgrounds together.”
