South Australian sports business leaders join Australian Masters Games board

The leaders of South Australian sport are to join together to ensure that next year’s Australian Masters Games in Adelaide are a success.

Led by former world squash number one and Adelaide radio presenter Chris Dittmar, the games advisory board features sports leaders from all sectors of South Australian sport, including community sport, event tourism, media and sports business representatives who will come together to help drive the Australian Masters Games participation, sponsorship, events and marketing programs.

The aim is to attract over 10,000 participants and volunteers across more than 50 sports for the 3rd to 10th October 2015 event, which is Australia’s largest multi-sport gathering.

The group includes some of South Australia’s most influential female sports managers including Events South Australia General Manager Hitaf Rasheed, SA Community Football League Manager Leanne Grantham, Sport SA Chief Executive Jan Sutherland and nationally, Canterbury sportswear General Manager Nicole Pensko.

They will be joined by Office for Sport and Recreation & Sport Executive Director Paul Anderson, Advertiser Newspapers Head of Sport Peter Dawe. Rob Bradley, President of event owner Confederation of Australian Sport, and Australian University Sport General Manager Tony Jermyn who is responsible for the administration of the event. The group will be supported by the Australian Masters Games General Manager Nic Mercer.

In announcing the appointments, acting South Australian Tourism Minister Tom Koutsantonis said the group would ensure the Games are a success, and deliver significant benefits for South Australia.

Minister Koutsantonis stated “this is a diverse group that has a wealth of experience across all sectors of sport.

“The event is expected to generate more than $12 million for the State’s economy, and will be a great opportunity to showcase South Australia to the thousands of visitors from interstate and overseas.”

Games General Manager Nic Mercer said the composition of the board will provide insights and advice to the Australian Masters Games operational team across important areas such as sponsorship, community engagement, tourism and marketing.

Mercer added “our sponsorship program has begun and the Australian Masters Games will provide a unique opportunity for South Australian businesses to be involved in the event.

“With 10,000 participants coming to Adelaide, the Games will also provide a boost for local businesses, particularly in the tourism sector and it’s important we make the most of the opportunity.

The Australian Masters Games is sponsored by the South Australian Tourism Commission through Events South Australia. 

Australian Masters Games 2015  
A week-long festival of sport and festivities. Australia’s largest regular multisport Games will feature over 50 sports, ranging from athletics to basketball to cue sports to wood chopping. 

Being held from Saturday 3rd to Saturday 10th October 2015, the events is expected to attract more than 10,000 people from across Australia and overseas. 

The event is open to anyone who meets the age requirements of their sport of choice and does not impose qualifying standards and welcomes participants from all over the world> The only criteria to compete in the Australian Masters Games is meeting the minimum age criteria which in most sports is 30 years.
