South Australian Aquatic Centre set to make a big splash

South Australian Aquatic Centre set to make a big splash
February 22, 2011

The first splash of 10 million litres of water has begun flowing into the pools at South Australia's new State Aquatic Centre.

South Australian Infrastructure Minister Pat Conlon has turned on the taps at the 55 metre combined diving and water polo pool and the 52 competition pool.

The new Centre, which features a GP Plus Health Care Centre, was designed by Peddle Thorpe Architects and is being built by Adelaide based Candetti Constructions.

Its extensive aquatic facilities have been designed by AVP Constructions.

They include:

• 52 metre x 25 metre x 3 metre deep Competition Pool with moveable boom, windows, pace lights;
• 55 metre x 25 metre x 3 to 5 metre Dive/Water Polo Pool with moveable boom, aircushions, windows;
• 2 Thermal Hydro Spas;
• 1 Polar chilled hydro spa;
• 25 metre Program Pool with variable depth and a 12 person spa;
• 15 metre x 12 metre x 1 metre deep Learn to Swim Pool;
• 29 metre x 15 metre variable depth leisure pool with leisure water and inter active water playground;
• 12 metre x 6 metre variable depth Toddler Pool;
• 14 metre x 5 metre variable depth Slide Pool.

Each of the pools has been constructed using Myrtha Pools technology while waterslides (the 72 metre Space Hole Slide and the 102 metre Aquatube Slide), the aquatower and waterplay features come from Turkish company Polin Waterparks and Pool Systems.

The aquatic facility's water is filtered using state of the art UFF Defender filters from Neptune Benson with chemical treatment by Chlorine Gas and UV.

AVP Constructions Mark Harper explains "we have been involved in the project from design to completion and it has been really exciting to be involved in this state of the art facility."

Candetti Constructions Executive Chairman Alex Candetti believes that the new facility is truly world-class, stating "this is one of the first master-planned, mixed-use aquatic and health precincts in the nation."

The facility is due for completion in April, with Adelaide bidding to host the London Olympic swimming trials to be held in March next year.
