Social media for sporting media
Football journalists body The Football Media Association (FMA) is to host a one-day seminar on the use of twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media.
Being held on 8th November, the event will by Julie Posetti, Assistant Professor in Journalism, University of Canberra and promises to be a hands-on day where attendees will be actively using different media. The event will cover social media applications, the legal and ethical issues faced by journalists in using social media (relevant in sport as it is in other areas), 'best practice' in the use of social media.
The FMA 2012 AGM will be held following the seminar.
Julie Posetti is an award-winning journalist and journalism academic who lectures in radio and television reporting at the University of Canberra, and is also a social media trainer and consultant. Posetti has been a national political correspondent, a regional news editor, a TV documentary reporter and presenter on radio and television with the ABC.
Her academic research centres on journalism and social media, talkback radio, the ABC in the Howard era and media coverage of Muslims post-9/11. She's writing a PhD thesis on the 'Twitterisation of Journalism' and she's the Australian correspondent for the respected PBS website Mediashift. Internationally published as a journalist and researcher, Julie was a Walkley finalist in the investigative journalism category in 1996, she won the Australian Human Rights Award for Radio the same year, and in 2007 she received a Carrick Citation for excellence in teaching and learning in recognition of her innovative approach to journalism education.
FMA members as well as non-members welcome. The event costs $30 for FMA members, $45 for non-members.
The event is being held from 10am to 4pm at the Aerial UTS Function Centre, University of Technology Sydney.
Delegates are asked to bring their laptop and to be sure they are signed up with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
