Snap Fitness to flex more muscle in India
Global health club chain Snap Fitness, which has nine outlets in India, is open to acquisitions in the sub-continent to reach a target figure of 150-200 clubs by March 2012.
Peter Taunton, President and Chief Executive of Snap Fitness, stated "we don't mind looking at an inorganic growth if the stores offer the same level of service as we do."
Snap Centres are positioned as high value, affordable and neighbourhood fitness clubs, Taunton saying that having previously owned and operated several âbig box' health clubs he realised that many parts of these expensive facilities were idle for most of the time.
By contrast, Snap outlets are generally spread over 200 to 600 metres and offer cardio and strength training equipment that is âused everyday.'
Snap's nine Indian outlets are high performing and are bracketed among the top 10% of Snap fitness chains, in terms of membership and sales, according to Taunton.
Snap Centres in India have about 1,200 members per outlet and is looking at a membership of 300,000 people in three years.
Globally, Snap has 2,000 centres and 750,000 members - of which 4,000 members are in India. The club operates on the franchising model and has outlets in the US, Canada, Australia and Mexico.
The fitness chain is also planning to enter China, Japan, Sri Lanka, the UAE and European markets soon.
