read moreService Skills Australia (SSA), the industry skills development organisation, has named Ian Blandthorn, National Assistant Secretary of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA) as its new Chair and Royal Life Saving Society Australia Chief Executive Justin Scarr as its new Deputy Chair.
The appointments were made this week at the SSA Annual General Meeting at which Blandthorn and Scarr were confirmed as Board Members along with John Hart, Chief Executive of the Restaurant and Catering Association; Fiona Heslop of the Rookwood General Cemetery; Jan Sutherland of Service Skills SA and Sport SA and workplace relations consultant John Sweetman.
SSA has also opened registrations for its 2014 Conference, to be held at the Sheraton on the Park, Sydney from on 3rd and 4th March 2014.
The conference will bring together over 250 employers, employees, industry bodies, training organisations and government representatives from the service sectors, to discuss strategies for working collaboratively to increase the productivity and participation of the workforce in the service industries.
The conference format will include keynote presentations, plenary sessions, guest panels and sector specialised breakout sessions addressing the conference theme: Engage, Empower, Excel Connecting skills and workforce.
Service Skills Australia is a comprehensive source of expert, independent advice for industry, training organisations and employees, students and jobseekers about skills development in the service industries. Its definition of service industries includes events, fitness, hospitality, recreation, sport and tourism along with retail, beauty and funeral services.
