Implementing governance changes agreed in 2011, the new board of the New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) has elected Sarah Beaman as the new Chair of the Association.

Beaman has been a recreation professional for 20 years, starting her career as the Information Manager at Sport North Harbour though to her current role as a consultant with a focus on recreation and sport.

She also currently sits on the New Zealand Business Excellence Foundation (NZBEF) Board of Directors.

Looking to the strategic direction of the Association over the next two years, Chief Executive

Ian Leslie explains "Sport NZ recently communicated they are looking to invest in NZRA's capability building and advocacy roles (which) is good news for NZRA as these are our core reasons for being.

"The next two years heralds an opportunity for us to step up in our core areas."
